Sony Xperia Z2

June 9, 2014

Sony Xperia Z2I was talking about a mid-range smartphone earlier, but I now have the pleasure of bringing into the scene something from the high-end area, ladies and gentlemen, the Sony Xperia Z2! This baby has come to replace the last king that ruled over the Sony devices, I’m talking of course about the Xperia Z1. The Z2 brings some fresh additions and has been nicely improved, as to impress more and more consumers and get their attention with one of the most attractive appearances out there. One of the toughest too, as we’re already used with the dust-proof and water resistant devices coming from Sony, aren’t we? But the outside isn’t the only one who might steal your heart – the internal specifications are also top notch and will offer you a really special user experience, one of the best you can expect from a flagship at the moment. Check it out in the following review and find out more details about it. It’s worth it, trust me.
The Xperia Z2 comes in a retail package accompanied by a charger, a microUSB cable for making data connections and re-charging the phone and a headset.
In terms of appearance, the Xperia Z2 measures 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm and has a weight of 163 grams, which is reasonable for its size. The body is made from a scratch-resistant glass and aluminum, and this combination is everything about offering a premium feel and look for the customers. Besides being extremely attractive, the flagship is also very solid, having an IP58 certification for being dust proof and water resistant for over 1 m and 30 minutes.
The Xperia Z2 comes with a 5.2 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that offer a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a pixel density of 424 ppi and features a shatter proof glass which is also resistant to scratches for protection. The triluminous display is also powered by the X-Reality Engine. The image quality is, of course, great, with good contrast, wide viewing angles and vibrant colors. The sunlight legibility is also good, yet suffers a little because of the screen, which is a little bit too reflective.
Let’s find out what’s cooking on the inside. The Xperia Z2 comes loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat, which has been tweaked here and there with Sony customizations. The user experience is wonderful, as the interface is extremely friendly and intuitive, offering you a lot of options and possibilities of customizing your handset according to your wishes. Google Now is here, so you have a personal assistant for handling your activities and offering information which might interest you.
In terms of hardware, the Xperia Z2 is powered by the best out there, having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, with a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB internal memory which can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 128 GB. The performance is great; everything works like a charm. The Z2 is a real powerhorse and you’ll find out for yourself when “playing” with one.
Sony Xperia Z2 manyFor taking pictures, the Xperia Z2 comes armed with a 20.7 MP camera with autofocus that captures stills with a resolution of 5248 x 3936 pixels and has a LED flash for helping in low light situations. The camera is very much like the previous one from the Z1, yet has been improved here and there by refurbishing the software. It features the same excellent Exmor RS BSI 1/ 2.3” sensor and 27 mm wide Sony G Lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The Superior mode proves to be an excellent companion, as it chooses the best settings for your photos and does a pretty good job while at it, even though the pictures are limited to 8MP. Overall, the camera is exactly what you need if you desire something very capable for delivering some really impressive pictures, with accurate colors, fine contrast and a high amount of resolved details.
The video camera is also a great performer, as it’s able to produce some amazing 4K videos which are candy for the eyes and the quality is one of the best you can find at the moment.
The connectivity package of the Xperia Z2 is also very rich in features, as it holds support for quad-band 2G, penta-band 3G, LTE (where it’s covered), dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and Hotspot, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 with support for USB-on-the-go and also MHL enabled.
Some other great and useful things offered by the Z2 are the all-knowing Google Chrome for delivering an excellent browsing experience, the Office Suite 7 for viewing and editing document files, some very capable media players, a GPS receiver with support for A-GPS and GLONASS, an FM Radio with RDS and much more.
The Xperia Z2 is powered by a 3,200 mAh battery and will stay alive for more than 3 days under a moderate usage, which is pretty cool in my book.
