Three New Glorious Smart Devices From Apple : the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch

September 15, 2014

iPhone 6

All the Apple fan boys are in pure awe, because last week their wettest dream just came true. Sorry for the unfortunate choice of words, but I can’t help myself. There were (and still are) thousands of people standing in line, waiting for the latest iPhone 6 to hit the store shelves (pre-orders started on Friday 12’th of September). The good news is that, along with the long soughed after iPhone 6, Apple announced a weird and humongous beast, the iPhone 6 Plus and an awesome smart watch,  the pinnacle of wearable smart technology, the Apple Watch (that was predictable, isn’t it?).

Along with these three high tech gadgets, Apple announced their own, in house made paying system, called Apple Pay, that enables their clients (the iPhone users that is) to use their smart phones as a credit card (paying for their merchandise). Apple Pay is compatible with all the major credit card companies : Master Card, American Express and Visa, not to mention over 22 000 merchants and the number is growing fast.

Using the Apple Pay service is easy as pie. All you have to do is to tap your Apple device at a retailer’s payment terminal and that’s about it. To add a card to your Apple Pay system, you’ll only have to take a picture of the credit card with the iPhone’s camera, to add it into your Apple Pay account using NFC, Touch ID and confirm it with your bank.

But enough with the high tech stuff, let’s have a look at the stars .

First, comes the iPhone 6. With a 4.7 inches wide screen boasting a resolution of 750×1334 pixels  (it doesn’t have OIS and that’s a bummer) and an uber-premium looking and feeling brushed aluminum back panel, elegantly curved and embracing the front Gorilla Glass face, this baby looks like an ultra sophisticated iPad.

The same story goes with the iPhone 6 Plus. They share the same design and premium look and feel, just that the latter is significantly bigger. The 6 + brags with a 5.5 inches wide screen featuring full HD resolution (1920×1080) but besides its generous dimensions, the phones are remarkably similar. Both in terms of design, looks and wits. They’re essentially the same beast in glamour clothes, featuring Apple’s latest Retina HD displays.

iPhone 6 plus extra

Both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus run on the same hardware platform . The newly developed A8 processor delivers 25%  more processing power than the previous generation and it’s hugely efficient energy wise, with up to 87% when compared to the A7.

Both smart phones have an 8 Megapixels camera on the back featuring an f/22 aperture lens, a brand new sensor and a quicker auto focus.

The iPhone 6 comes with digital image stabilization for better pics, while its bigger brother, the 6 Plus has the coolest thing in the world if you’re into photography : OIS. This stands for optical image stabilization, and it translates into professional technology; the system uses a gyroscope and an M8 coprocessor, hence your pictures will be crystal clear, with no trace of shakiness’.

The same M8 coprocessor used for image stabilization is capable of determining if you’re running, walking, cycling or whatever, and it’s also perfectly capable of telling if you’re climbing stairs or what not thanks to its barometric sensors that monitors air pressure.

Both iPhones feature NFC and Touch ID, these being essential items in Apple’s own Pay system (Security stuff). Apple’s finest, I mean the iPhone 6 is expected to go on sale on September 19 and the price will start from $200 on contract while the bigger brother, the iPhone 6 Plus will cost you an additional $100. Fingers crossed.

apple watch

The Apple Watch is the latest and the greatest in wearable technology. Its face looks very similar to a regular watch, but what’s on the inside makes all the difference.

As Apple CEO Tim Cook puts it, the Apple Watch is “the most personal device we’ve ever created”. This remark was received by the public very well, with standing ovations (if any).

Bottom line, the Apple Watch is basically a very stylish high tech miniaturized iPhone that will never leave your person, being firmly anchored at your wrist.

Even if the first shipments of Apple’s Watch will be delivered starting with 2015, we already know that there will be three versions of the smart watch : the Apple Watch, Watch Edition and Watch Sport.

All three highly customizable, high end looking engineering marvels. The display is protected by a sapphire sheet, the camera/sensors lens on the back too. The hardware is also fully customizable, to suite your own personal needs. The Apple Watch is expected to be launched in early 2015 and its price tag will be around $350.
